Rough week, rough day

This week has been a rough one...as I mentioned before, I work in a retirement community, where each person becomes like a grandpa or grandma to me...

I lost a favorite "grandpa" over the weekend, very unexpectedly, and this week has been incredibly hard without his daily hourly visits to give me a hard time or to just chat....

Today was the funeral...I couldn't bring myself to go, and I am so angry that I was not able to say goodbye one last time...
you see I took last Friday off so he didn't get to tell me " to be safe over the weekend and have a good one", I didn't get to tell him to "stay out of trouble"...and this is really weighing on me....so much left unsaid...

So I cried....
I cried when I picked up the people from the funeral and watched the casket being placed in the hearse.......
I cried when I listened to the other's reminsicing in the van about his generous spirit...
I cried on my drive home....

I also prayed for the families comfort, and prayed for healing hearts for all of us here work, residents and staff, who knew and loved this "almost wonderful" guy...

  1. I can imagine that is very hard for you, Casey. Just think about how much joy you brought to his life on a daily basis through your work though. A friendly smile, caring comment, giving spirit. He probably looked forward to seeing you each and every day. All of the time that you did get to spend with him probably meant more than you know. Hopefully you can find some peace in that. Never easy to lose good people. Just remember the good memories. This definitely makes me think of my grandpa out in California. He always talks about the "nice, young people" that work in his retirement community.

  2. So sorry to hear that... I am sure he was all of that and then some, in fact he was that for a lifetime... Imagine that... Wow!!! You will always be able to keep what you remember and share what you loved...God knows that there is someone else that needs to hear it ;)
